When it comes to eye creams there appears to be two camps, those who think it’s an unnecessary waste of money and those who think it’s a definite must. It is safe to say I’m a strongly believe it is a must. An eye cream has been part of my routine since my late teens / early 20’s. The saying ‘the eyes are the window to the soul’ is so incredibly true. Your eyes and the delicate skin surrounding them are literally the windows to what is going on inside your body.

Our internal organs and lifestyle choices reflect in our eye area:

General mild illness = dull eyes

Mediation, especially antibiotics = puffy, dull, discolored and dehydrated eyes

Smoking = grey and dehydrated eyes

Lack of lymph drainage = dark circles and puffy eyes

Lack of sleep or even too much sleep = grey ‘tired eyes’, dark circles and puffy eyes

Unhealthy diet full of salt, caffeine and / or alcohol = dehydrated, dark circles and puffy eyes

Liver congestion = yellow eyes

Sun damage / aging = dehydrated eyes that result in wrinkles

Unfortunately, too often eye creams promise to lighten, brighten, lift and hydrate, most of the time they just don’t live up to these ludicrous claims. It is virtually impossible for any eye cream alone to fix any of the above. If you are unhealthy internally, a fancy eye cream will not magically fix you.

However, all that being said I have been going steady for months now with an incredible eye cream that consists of two things I’m a big fan of: the first being avocados (see here and here) and the second being a thick consistency that doesn’t make false claims.

Kiehl’s creamy eye treatment with avocado only claim is to hydrate the eye area – and it does this beautifully. This creamy thick and rich formula is packed full of Shea butter, avocado oil and so many incredible antioxidants that help to hydrate and replenish the thin skin underneath the eye. With the dry down to matte formula being so thick it doesn’t migrate, so it is perfect under makeup. Plus, a huge bonus despite it being thick it sinks into the skin so quickly you’ll forget it’s even there (it is fail-safe.)

How I like to use it: A little goes a long way so both morning and evening I like to place a small pea sized amount on my ring fingertip. Then I like to activate the product by tapping it between my fingertips to burst the oil. I then apply it gentility with pressure to my orbital bone in an upwards and outwards movement to stimulate circulation and draining (please don’t drag the skin).

You can find a Kiehl’s avocado eye treatment for £20 here or if you are outside the UK you can pick it up here

I have also picked up another Kiehl’s product that alongside this has made it onto my skin care routine (potential review coming soon.) If you have any Kiehl’s recommendations I would love to hear them!
